Features flighted in data management and enabling flighted features describes this for data management flight features, but I want to enable the features described in Unit of measure conversions for product variants. How can I determine the flight name of a feature and how I can use this name to correctly enable this feature? As of April 26there seems to be no comprehensive list of all flight features in DFO.

This means you have to dig into the code to find out which feature uses which flight name. How to find new Feature-Flights in DynFO has some information on this, but it does not cover the feature in question. In the case of feature Unit of measure conversions for product variants I dug into the form EcoResProductParameters shown in the description and took a look at the code of the form. The updateDesign method contains the line.

This constant is the flight name of the feature in question. As described in the article on data management flight features, you can now use that name to create a new record in table SysFlighting. I found it easiest to create a new record using the table browser.

This is how my final SysFlighting record looked in the table browser. Note that your values for PartitionRecId and recVersion can be different. Note that the value for the field FlightServiceID must also be added in the web. Locate the following line in the file and add the value as shown:.

After that, do an iisresetafter which the functionality of the feature was available on my system. Note that this works only in development environments. Deployed environments may restrict access to iisresetthe database and the table browser.

In some environments, the iisreset can be replaced by a restart of the "World Wide Web Publishing Service". For other systems, you may have to contact Microsoft support to have them enable the feature for you.

For more information about these changes, see Dynamics Licensing Guide. This topic describes how you can use the data management framework to manage data entities and data entity packages in Finance and Operations. The data management framework supports using data entities in the following core data management scenarios:.

Data entities provide conceptual abstraction and encapsulation of underlying table schema that represent data concepts and functionalities. In Microsoft Dynamics AXmost tables, like the Customer and Vendor tables, were de-normalized and split into multiple tables. This was beneficial from a database design point of view, but made it difficult for implementers and ISV's to use without a thorough understanding of the physical schema.

Data entities were introduced as part of data management to be used as a layer of abstraction to easily understand by using business concepts. The concept of data entities combines those different concepts into one. The following table shows core data management scenarios. Using the data management framework, you can quickly migrate reference, master, and document data from legacy or external systems. The framework is intended to help you quickly migrate data by using the following features:.

You can use the data management framework to copy configurations between companies or environments, and configure processes or modules using Microsoft Dynamics Lifecycle Services LCS.

Copying configurations is intended to make it easier to start a new implementation, even if your team doesn't deeply understand the structure of data that needs to be entered, or data dependencies, or which sequence to add data to an implementation. The following sections provide quick snapshots of the different functionalities of data management using data entities.

The goal is to help to you strategize and make effective decisions on how to best utilize the available tools during data migration. You will also find tips and tricks on how to effectively use each area during data migration. A list of available data entities for each area can also be found with the suggested data sequences, showing data dependencies. The information in this document can be used as a guide for creating your own packages.

The description of each data entity shows what the object contains and if it is needed during data migration. When a user adds data entities to a data project, by default, a sequence is set for the order in which the entities will load. The first entity added to the project will be set as the first entity to load, the next entity added will be second, the next entity will be third, and so on.

Red trichomes

For example, if a user added two entities in this order, Sales tax codes and Sales Tax groupsthen Sales tax codes is assigned an entity sequence of 1. The sequence level indicates that the second entity will not start the import process until the first level is finished. To view or edit a sequence, click the Entity sequence button on the Action Pane of the data project.

In the Definition group entity sequence, you can see the execution units and the sequence. You can change sequence by selecting the data entity in the list, setting a different Execution unit or Sequence in level, and then clicking Update selected. After clicking Update selectedthe entity will move up or down in the entity list.

The following screenshot shows the entity sequence that is set for the Sales Tax CodeGroups data package. In order to successfully import sales tax codes and groups, the sales tax codes and details have to be loaded first, before sales tax groups can be imported. Other related sales tax entities that are not dependent upon other data entities being loaded are included in the package. This data entity will start loading immediately because there are no dependencies on other entities loading before it.

In order to successfully load data, it's important to set the correct order for importing data packages, because of dependencies that exist within and across modules. The numbering format that has been created for the data packages within LCS are as follows:. Data packages follow the sequence number, followed by the module abbreviation, and then a description.

The following example shows General ledger data packages. When working with data entities, mapping an entity to a source is automatic. The automatic mapping of fields can be overridden if needed. To view how an entity is mapped, locate the tile for the entity in the project, and then click View map.

These fields must be mapped in order to work with the entity. Other fields can be unmapped as required when working with the entity. If you have extended an entity added fields or if the automatic mapping appears to be incorrect, the mapping of the entity can be regenerated in the Mapping form. If you have fields in entities that you want the system to generate data for on import, instead of providing the data in the source file, you can use the auto-generated functionality in the mapping details for the entity.

For example, if you want to import customers and customer address information, but the address information was not previously imported with the Global Address Book entities, you can have the entity auto-generate the party number upon import and the GAB information will be created. To access this functionality, view the map of the entity and click the Mapping details tab. Select the fields that you want to auto-generate. This will change the source field to Auto. Many entities support automatic generation of identifiers based on number sequence setup.

For example, when creating a product, the product number is automatically generated and the form does not allow you to edit values manually. After you have enable manual assignment, you can provide manually assigned numbers instead.I read it on a post by Ben Armstrong:. If you are already on and have not yet enabled Hyper-V, you can either follow the above steps, or hang tight while we work on the next flight!

Rick Claus also used the term in the latest episode of the Ignite Countdown show. And the term was also used by Aul when he explained the frequency of builds for Windows Insiders:. So what are they talking about? Microsoft will be updating this OS on a regular basis, adding new functionality.

Windows Insiders are seeing it now, and the reality is that Microsoft development process was changed quite a bit after Windows 8. This release is a flight and the process is flighting. In the Microsoft world, we see flights all the time with Azure and quite frequently with SaaS such as O and Intune.

Windows is moving this way too. The result is you get a regular improvement of the product instead of every 1,2, or 3 years. Microsoft can be more responsive to feedback and change. All customer will use the same base source code of the Dynamics solution, and it will be maintained and updated every month. But for many customers, stability also have its value.

New functionality every month is not always what existing customers want to implement. New functionality could mean new trainings and new testing.

Me on the other hand loves new features, because it enables new possibilities and solutions. Microsoft have a solution for this, and that not all new functionality is enabled by default. Instead, the new functionality must be manually enabled based on support request through LCS.

Two specific functionalities that is already documented is new functionality in Data Management framework and Business events. In the documentation pages you can see how to enable this hidden functionality, but the essence is that you have to run a SQL commend only available for non-production environments :.

A small tip, to search for in Docs. And then you will see the articles on documented hidden features. But there are more, but undocumented features in two categories; Application and Platform. I have taken a snapshot of them here and based on the names we do get some indication of what they are used for. What they are, and how to use them I expect will be documented in the future.

Thanks for sharing your extensive experience Kurt, as always is was a pleasure to read your post and learn something new. Like Liked by 1 person. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account.

Learn more: What's new and planned. This functionality introduces advanced, planned cross-docking where all of the inbound inventory required to satisfy an existing order can be moved directly to the correct outbound dock or staging area without being put away.

All remaining inventory from the inbound source is directed to the correct storage location through the regular put-away process. Cross-docking allows workers to skip inbound put-away and outbound picking of inventory that is already marked for inclusion in an outbound order. The result minimizes the number of inventory touches where possible while saving time and space on the warehouse shop floor by reducing the number of interactions with the system.

The new cross-dock template enables users to specify the supply source and other requirements for cross-docking. The process of matching an outbound order to inbound inventory is called marking. On creating an outbound order, the user must mark each relevant line to match an inbound order that contains the required items.

This process creates the cross-dock work order and can be done manually or automatically via release-to-warehouse. On receiving an inbound order, the cross-docking setup automatically identifies the need for a cross-dock and creates the movement work for the required quantity based on the location-directive setup. The auto-release shipment feature builds on the cross-docking framework and supports a cross-docking strategy that lets you automatically release a sales or transfer order to the warehouse when the production order that supplies the demand quantity is reported as finished.

In this way, the quantity required to fulfil the demand order is moved directly from the production output location to the outbound location. Feature exploration video.
